JioCinema, the pocket-friendly on-demand video streaming service, is set to offer a wide array of NBCUniversal titles, including The Office, from next month.

What Happened? The Viacom18’s streaming platform, which is taking on the likes of Netflix and Disney+ Hostar, has struck a “multi-year” partnership with NBC Universal to bring a number of movies and TV shows from US media company to Indian viewers.

The deal comes after Viacom18 secured the streaming rights for HBO and other titles from Warner Bros., snatching away some premium content from Disney’s Hotstar.

The tie-up isn’t exclusive, however, which means that Netflix will likely continue offering NBC Universal titles on its Indian platform.

JioCinema is currently the most affordable streaming service in the country currently, charging ₹999 for an entire year, while Netflix’s subscription packages start at ₹149 per month and go up to ₹649 per month.

JioCinema also has digital streaming rights for the Indian Premier League 2023, the country’s biggest and most lucrative sporting event.

This agreement between Viacom18 and NBCUniversal also includes other shows and movies, including Parks and Recreation, Downton Abbey and Suits. The Fast franchise, featuring the recently released FastX, and Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated Oppenheimer are also slated to make their streaming debut on JioCinema in the near future.
