Reliance’s broadcast venture has partnered with Warner Bros Discovery to bring popular Hollywood content onto its streaming platform JioCinema, per a media report.

What Happened? According to an Economic Times report, the deal between Reliance’s Viacom18 and Warner Bros will make the latter’s HBO content, including popular shows such as Succession, Game of Thrones, and the upcoming Harry Potter series, available on the JioCinema app.

ET’s sources did not disclose the financials of the deal, however, one of the sources mentioned that the partnership will be exclusive, making JioCinema the sole platform for most of Warner’s marquee content in India.

The report notes that Warner cannot offer most of its popular titles to other Indian rivals including Amazon Prime Video and Disney Hotstar, per the specifics of the deal.

The content deal could bring thousands of hours of streaming content to JioCinema, which has gained popularity for streaming the IPL cricket tournament on the platform for free in the ongoing season.

Viacom18 notably outbid Disney for the IPL digital streaming rights from 2023 to 2027 for approximately $2.9 billion (₹23,782.43 crore).
