KEC International and BNC Power Projects have outbid other major contenders, including Siemens-RVNL JV, to secure the electrification contracts TR-02 and TR-03 for the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project, according to a Times of India report.

What Happened: KEC International won the TR-02 package with a bid of ₹207.36 crore, slightly above the estimated cost of ₹205 crore. The contract involves the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of 25kv flexible overhead equipment (OHE) and sectioning posts across at-grade and elevated sections.

BNCPPL secured the TR-03 package with a bid of ₹381 crore, exceeding the estimated cost of ₹344 crore by 10.72%. This contract includes the installation and commissioning of a 33 kV cable network, Auxiliary SubStation (ASS), Receiving SubStation (RSS), and SCADA system.

The Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project, spanning 43.8 km, is a significant initiative to enhance the city’s metro network and alleviate traffic congestion. The electrification works, including the installation of advanced systems like 25kV flexible OHE and 33 kV cables, are crucial for efficient operations upon completion.

This development comes as RVNL recently secured contracts from the East Coast Railway and East Central Railway. In October 2024, RVNL had won a ₹283 Cr order from the East Coast Railway for the construction of the third and fourth lines between Jarapada and Talcher Road and a new line between Angul-Balram.

In September 2024, RVNL had bagged a ₹180 Cr order from East Central Railway for the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 2×25 kilovolt feeder line along the track with 25-kilovolt overhead equipment modification works.
