Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) have announced the formation of a new joint venture, BEL IAI AeroSystems Private. The new entity will serve as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for providing product support to the Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) systems of India’s Defence Forces.

What Happened: This strategic partnership marks another significant step in reinforcing the relationship between BEL and IAI, who have a long-standing history of collaboration on strategic programmes.

The joint venture is one of several collaborative initiatives between BEL and IAI aimed at supporting the Tri-services of India. The partnership is expected to enhance the operational readiness of India’s Defence Forces by ensuring timely and efficient product support for the MRSAM systems.

Why It Matters: This joint venture comes after the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) approved the incorporation of "BEL IAI AeroSystems Private Limited" in late September. The new entity will provide product support, including repair and maintenance, for the MRSAM System used in India. Bharat Electronics Limited holds a 40% stake in this joint venture.

This development follows BEL’s recent collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Earlier this week, BEL signed a memorandum of understanding with the Space Applications Centre (SAC), ISRO to collaborate on indigenising and developing infrastructure for manufacturing space-grade travelling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) in India. With these strategic partnerships, BEL continues to fortify its position in India’s defence sector.
