Rohit Kumar Singh, a retired Indian Administrative Service officer, recently shared a nostalgic post on X (formerly Twitter) about his first job at TCS Mumbai, which he secured through campus recruitment at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi over 40 years ago.
What Happened: In a post shared on Sunday, Singh fondly recalled his early career days at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Mumbai. He said his initial salary of ₹1,300 per month and the “regal” ocean view from the 11th floor of the Air India Building at Nariman Point, where TCS was located.

The tweet also included an image of his appointment letter from TCS, dated June 20, 1984. The letter confirmed his position as a trainee with a stipend of ₹1,300 per month, effective from June 4, 1984.
Replying to his post, one of the users asked, what was his starting salary as a probationer in the IAS. He replied that it was ₹2,200. Singh retired from the civil services earlier this year after over three decades of service. He was a secretary to the Government of India.
