BIBA is a brand name that’s known to many for their positioning in the ethnic apparel market. While many new competitors sprung up in the past few years, BIBA was one of the brands that popularised ethnic clothing.

BIBA was founded by Meena Bindra in 1988 whose work was also seen in famous Bollywood movies. Bindra reportedly designed outfits for veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan for the movie “Baghban” and Hrithik Roshan int he movie “Na Tum Jaano Na Hum” among others. But BIBA’s success is not the beast part of the story, instead, the brand’s journey is what makes it stand out.

Not long after Bindra graduated from Delhi University, she got getting married at the young age of 20. This early transition into married life shaped her future in ways she couldn't have anticipated.

Years later, when she was 40, Bindra decided to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams and started selling simple cotton-printed clothes from home. Despite having no formal training in the fashion industry, she was determined to carve out a niche for herself.

However, the journey to establish BIBA Apparels was fraught with challenges, especially since she lacked the necessary funds and didn't even have a bank account to her name. That’s when her husband stepped in to support her.

He helped her secure a loan of ₹8,000 from a bank, which provided the crucial startup capital needed to launch her business. This financial assistance marked the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey, setting the foundation for what would eventually become a thriving brand.

She reportedly opened her first store in 2004. By March 2012, BIBA's annual revenues had reached around ₹300 crore. The brand's popularity continued to rise, and by 2023, BIBA had established itself as a significant force in the industry, boasting a revenue of over ₹800 crore.

In 2015, Bindra was given the APEX lifetime achievement award, a premium award of the Indian apparel industry, given by the Clothing Manufacturers' Association of India annually.
