Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) has secured major orders for the construction of 2 gigawatt scale Solar PV (photovoltaic) plants in the Middle East.
What Happened: The renewable arm of L&T clinched these orders from a prominent developer in the Middle East. The solar plants, with a combined capacity of 3.5 gigawatts, will also include grid interconnections, pooling substations, and overhead transmission lines. The detailed engineering and initial construction work are slated to start soon.
With these fresh orders, L&T’s renewable portfolio is set to touch 22 GWp (Gigawatt Peak) cumulative capacity, encompassing commissioned and ongoing solar and wind generation projects.
The order is classified by the company as “mega” which means it could be worth between ₹10,000 crore to ₹15,000 crore.

In May 2024, the company secured multiple orders in the renewable energy and grid systems sector, including two floating solar plants in India with a combined capacity of over 150 MWac (megawatt alternating current) and a ground-mounted Solar PV of 120 MWac capacity. It also undertook the setting up of 765-kilovolt transmission lines and a gas-insulated substation to integrate Solar Energy Zones in Rajasthan and Karnataka.
In June 2024, L&T bagged a significant order to construct a Solar cum Energy Storage plant in Bihar. The plant, located at Kajra in Lakshisarai district, is expected to play a crucial role in Bihar's strategy to leverage renewable energy for sustainable solutions and cater to demand growth.
