India’s biggest IT services company, Tata Consultancy Services went public in the year 2004. Back then, Ratan Tata was the chairman of the company and N Chandrasekaran was the executive vice president looking after global operations.
As per the company’s old records, Chandrasekaran was paid a gross salary of 37.63 lakh for the year ended March 2025. Ratan Tata, as chairman, received a total salary of around ₹48 lakh. Out of this, ₹47 lakh was commission, while ₹0.95 was his sitting fees.

The then-CEO and managing director, S Ramadorai was paid a total salary of around ₹95 lakh. This included a commission of ₹65 lakh. Current CEO K Krithivasan was paid ₹25.36 crore in annual compensation for the year ended March 2024.
On August 25, 2004, the equity shares of the company were listed on the stock exchanges. The IPO was over-subscribed 8.03 times on an overall basis.
Now almost two decades later, TCS is India’s second biggest company with a market capitalisation of around ₹14.50 lakh crore. Chandrasekaran is the chairman of the Tata Group and Ratan Tata is happily retired but continuing his heartwarming philanthropic work.
