Zomato has issued an apology for delivering a non-vegetarian meal to a pregnant vegetarian customer in Bengaluru.

What Happened: Shobhit Siddharth, a Bengaluru resident, ordered a paneer thali for his expecting wife who was advised to abstain from non-vegetarian food. To his shock, he received a chicken thali instead.

Siddharth took to social media to voice his concern, questioning Zomato’s service and the potential harm that could have been inflicted. His post quickly gained traction, leading to a response from Zomato.

Zomato’s Response: The company acknowledged the error and expressed regret for the inconvenience. Zomato reassured Siddharth that they respect dietary preferences and would never intentionally disregard them. The food delivery giant in a later tweet shared that they had connected with the customer over a call and provided them with the best resolution. However, Siddharth said that “the resolution promised has not been fulfilled yet, and neither have I received the promised email.”

Why It Matters: This incident follows a similar occurrence reported last month where a Zomato user named Akash Gupta received non-vegetarian momos instead of the vegetarian ones he ordered during the Navratri festival. The festival is a time when people are particularly selective about their food choices. Zomato had acknowledged the issue then, calling it a “big mix-up” and promising to resolve it. These repeated incidents highlight a potential systemic issue within Zomato’s operations, raising concerns about the platform’s ability to respect and adhere to customers’ dietary preferences. This could potentially impact Zomato’s reputation and customer trust in the long run.
