Following this holiday for the General Elections, the next stock market holiday will be on ‘Bakri Id' on Monday, June 17, 2024. For the remainder of 2024, there will be seven additional stock market holidays.
On May 20, voting in Maharashtra will take place in the Lok Sabha constituencies of Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane, Mumbai North, Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East, Mumbai South, Mumbai South Central, Mumbai North Central, and Palghar.

This stock market closure aligns with Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881, which acknowledges the importance of citizen participation in the electoral process.
The Markets On Saturday: The share market which is usually closed for the weekends opened for trading on Saturday for a special session. The special live trading session on Saturday, May 18, was to test the exchange’s disaster preparedness.
The markets closed higher during the session. Benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex both ended the day in green. Nifty 50 was up 0.16% to close at 22,502. The gains in the 50-stock index were led by FMCG giant Nestle, Power Grid Corporation and Tata Motors.
