Truecaller has unveiled a new feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that allows its premium Android users to block all calls that are not from approved contacts or identified as spam.
What Happened: As per a report by the Economic Times, Truecaller’s new ‘Max’ update enables the blocking of spam calls even if they are not registered in the app’s database. This marks a significant departure from the app’s earlier functionality, which only permitted call blocking based on the listing of numbers in their database.
Truecaller is striving to improve its filtering technology to draw more subscribers to its premium service. This initiative also serves as a strategy to leverage the growing annoyance among users due to the rising volume of spam calls and scams.

The premium plan of Truecaller is available at ₹75 per month or ₹529 per year in India. However, the new spam-blocking feature is exclusively accessible to Android users since Apple restricts apps from automatically blocking calls based on spam identification.
Besides the spam-blocking feature, Truecaller also introduced an AI-powered call recording feature in India in February. This feature offers transcription and call summaries to premium subscribers.
Since its launch in 2009, Truecaller has amassed over 356 million active users and more than a billion downloads. In 2021 alone, the app blocked nearly 50 billion unwanted calls.
