Apple is finally set to launch its first brick-and-mortar retail store in Mumbai next month, shortly followed by a second store in Delhi.

What Happened? According to an Economic Times report, the Cupertino giant’s first flagship store is set to be 22,000 square foot space in Reliance Industries’ Jio World Drive Mall in BKC, Mumbai. A source speaking to ET said the store is expected to be a “retail landmark” like the kind of outlets Apple runs in Los Angeles, New York, Beijing, Milan and Singapore.

The store in Delhi will be a part of the Select Citywalk mall situated in Saket and be spread over an area of more than 10,000 square feet. The store is scheduled to launch in April-June, which may be just after the launch of the first store in Mumbai.

“Fitouts are completed for both the stores,” a source tells ET. “In fact, the fit-out was completed for the Delhi store ahead of the Mumbai one. But since Mumbai will be the flagship Apple Store in India, it will open first next month. The Delhi one will open soon after.”

Following a recent earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned that the company is putting a lot of emphasis on the Indian market. Cook compared its current state of progress in India to the Cupertino giant's early days in China.

Apple amassed record-breaking revenue figures in India in the previous quarter — even as its total sales slipped 5% globally.

The country's importance to Apple from a production standpoint has also been highlighted by the company's focus on collaborating with Foxconn, https://in.benzinga.com/content/31188104/apples-move-away-from-china-to-india-continues-as-key-supplier-plans-new-manufacturing-unit-in-telan)" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">to set up new iPhone production facilities in the country.
