India’s eminent industrialist Ratan Tata who was 86, died on Wednesday midnight at a Mumbai Hospital. India’s national and business leaders joined in to pay respect to the industrialist.

What Happened: Ratan Tata, the former chairman of the Tata Group died on Wednesday night. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Monday. Ratan Tata was the chairman of the Tata Group and Tata Sons from 1990 to 2012.

He had also received Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Shri Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India's oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better.”

N Chandrasekaran, Tata Sons Chairman also paid his tributes to his colleague, saying Ratan Tata’s “contributions have shaped not only Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation”.IRFC Appoints Manoj Kumar Dubey As Chairman and Managing Director

Droupadi Murmu, President of India wrote in X post, “In the sad demise of Shri Ratan Tata, India has lost an icon who blended corporate growth with nation building and excellence with ethics. A recipient of Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan, he took forward the great Tata legacy and gave it a more impressive global presence. He inspired seasoned professionals and young students alike. His contribution to philanthropy and charity is invaluable. I convey my condolences to his family, the entire team of the Tata Group and his admirers across the globe.”

Rahul Gandhi, leader of Opposition also paid his respects.

Other business leaders such as Gautam Adani, chairperson of Adani Group, Anand Mahindra, chairperson of Mahindra Group, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google also paid their respects to the late Titan.
