On Tuesday, Tata Motors unveiled the Nexon iCNG and a new addition to the Nexon EV range, a 45 kWh battery pack.

What Happened: Tata Motors has added to the Nexon’s allure by making it the first and only vehicle in India to be available in four distinct powertrains – petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric.

The Nexon iCNG is “India's first turbocharged CNG vehicle”, designed for customers who prioritize eco-friendliness and do not want to compromise on driving quality. The Nexon iCNG is equipped with a 1.2L turbocharged engine, offering a segment-leading boot space of 321 litres. It also features a panoramic sunroof, leatherette ventilated seats, and a 10.25 inch Infotainment Screen by Harman.

The Nexon EV now comes with a 45kWh battery pack, enabling faster charging speeds and a range of 489 km. The 45 kWh battery pack in the Nexon EV aims to facilitate hassle-free intercity travel with a near-real-world range of 350–370 KM.

This development comes at a time when Tata Motors is witnessing a decline in its passenger vehicle sales. In August 2024, Tata’s Nexon's sales surged around 53% to 12,289 units compared to August 2023. However, it slipped to the number 10 spot in the best-selling cars list, down from the seventh spot in July. Total passenger vehicle sales dipped by 3%, with 44,486 units sold compared to 45,933 units in the previous year.
