Passions do not carry a price tag. While some are ready to blow out ₹50,000 on a PlayStation or a Dyson Airwrap, others would likely fret to spend even ₹10,000 on a pair of sneakers.
But what if a billionaire said they were too cautious to spend even a mere ₹20,000? Sounds unlikely for people with such a hefty bank balance, but not for Ashish Kacholia.
In a fun banter on microblogging site X, replying to a post, Kacholia said that he once regretted buying a pair of sneakers worth ₹20,000 for his kid.
A user, who goes by the name ASAN narrated how he got trapped into paying footwear maker Crocs over ₹5,000. He expected the pair to cost somewhere around ₹1,000-₹1,500 but was shocked when the store handed him an invoice of ₹5,496. “I had no option except to buy for saving my reputation,” the user said.

To this, Kacholia replied, “Happened to me when I ended up buying a 20k sneaker for my son in similar situation…Very embarrassing, so I can relate. Lesson learnt.” That gave way to a series of posts by other users, who were shocked to see Kacholia’s frugal side.
“Man is worth ₹4,200 crore and feeling bad for spending 20k on a sneaker… here i have spend more than 8k on a concert ticket… (sic)” one person said. To this, the ace investor approved that concerts are always worth top dollar.
Although Kacholia’s net worth is estimated to be over ₹4,000 crore, his middle-class mindset won’t allow him to make such a purchase, he hinted. Replying to another user in the thread, the billionaire agreed that the middle-class mentality would always be there no matter what the net worth.
