What Happened: The roof of Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport gave way on Friday, causing pandemonium, reported Economic Times. The unfortunate incident led to one death and several injuries, and flights had to be suspended from the terminal.

The collapse was caused by heavy downpours in the Delhi-NCR region, which also resulted in extensive waterlogging in numerous areas. The area surrounding Delhi Airport received 148.5 mm of rainfall over three hours on Friday morning.

Emergency services were swiftly sent to the location, and efforts are currently in progress to remove the debris and restore normal operations at the airport. The identity of the deceased has not been revealed yet.

The incident has led to significant disruption in flight schedules, with passengers being advised to check with their respective airlines for updates.

The collapsed roof was constructed during 2008-09. GMR gave the work to private contractors, PTI reported citing government sources.
