Reliance Retail, the retail division of Reliance Industries, has launched a pilot project to deliver products within an hour in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, marking a significant development in India’s quick commerce sector.
What Happened: Reliance Retail is experimenting with delivering groceries and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) within an hour, according to a report by The Economic Times on Tuesday. This initiative follows the discontinuation of Reliance’s quick-commerce pilot, JioMart Express, last year.
The rapid delivery service has been integrated into the JioMart mobile app as a ‘hyperlocal delivery’ feature. As the operation grows and more stores are connected to the system, Reliance plans to cut the delivery time to 30-45 minutes.

At present, the quickest delivery time for daily essentials from Reliance is up to 12 hours, with some deliveries taking up to 3 days. Rather than employing a large delivery workforce, the company plans to fulfil these orders using its existing store network and warehouses. In areas with fewer Reliance stores, the company plans to collaborate with local kirana stores under the JioMart Partner initiative.
Reliance also intends to expand this hyperlocal delivery model to include apparel and electronic items in the near future.
