Ahead of the proposed demerger, Tata Motors Executive Director Girish Wagh has highlighted the potential benefits for the company’s commercial vehicle segment.

What Happened: Wagh said that the proposed demerger of the automotive business into two listed entities will enhance the commercial vehicle segment’s agility and global opportunities, as per a PTI report.

Wagh, in the company’s Annual Report for 2023-24, stated that the demerger will improve focus and agility in the commercial vehicle market globally. He expects FY25 to be an exciting year for the industry, driven by favourable macroeconomic conditions in the domestic market.

The auto major in March the separation of its passenger and commercial vehicle segments into two distinct listed entities. The commercial vehicle business and related investments will be under one entity, while the passenger vehicle segment, including electric vehicles (EVs) and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), will form another.

Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle, expects the PV industry to moderate towards a long-term growth rate after three years of strong growth. He highlighted rising customer preference for safer, smarter, and greener vehicles, particularly SUVs.
