An Air India flight from Delhi to San Francisco was delayed over 8 hours, leading to passengers fainting due to lack of air conditioning, reports said. This incident has raised serious concerns over the airline’s operational efficiency and passenger safety.
What Happened: The Air India flight was delayed due to operational issues, reported India Today. Passengers were made to board the plane and wait without air conditioning at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Some passengers fainted due to the heat, after which they were asked to disembark the plane.
Journalist Shweta Punj took to social media to share the ordeal, tagging Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and calling the situation “inhuman”. She stated, “Passengers were made to board the plane without air conditioning and then deplaned after some people fainted in the flight.”

In response to the complaints, Air India has offered a full refund and hotel stay to all the passengers. The airline also assured the passengers of “necessary assistance” and apologised for the inconvenience.
This incident occurred amidst a severe heatwave in Delhi and the rest of North India, with temperatures reaching record highs. This is not the first time that Air India flights have been delayed, causing discomfort to passengers. Earlier in May, passengers had to sit inside the passenger cabin for around six hours with poor air conditioning on an Air India flight from Mumbai to San Francisco.
