Microsoft has launched a bold challenge to Apple‘s new AI-forward MacBooks with the introduction of its Copilot+ PCs, designed to usher in a “new era” for Windows 11 through a suite of artificial intelligence-powered features. These new laptops, set to hit the market this summer, will exclusively feature Copilot+ technology, which offers advanced AI capabilities in the next version of Windows 11.
What to know: To qualify as a Copilot+ PC, the device must have a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that delivers at least 40 TOPS (tera operations per second) of power. Initially, these high-performance machines will exclusively use Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Series chips. Models featuring Intel and AMD chips are expected to join the lineup later in the year.

Microsoft has announced several AI-driven functionalities unique to Copilot+ PCs, including:
- Recall: A feature that runs in the background, recording every action on your PC, allowing users to search for past activities using natural language across any application.
- Context-aware suggestions that assist based on current screen content.
- Live Caption translations, enhancing communication across languages.
- Auto Super Resolution for upgrading image quality.
- Enhanced content creation with Cocreator.
- Advanced Windows Studio Effects for multimedia tasks.
Recall is particularly notable for its ability to remember and retrieve any piece of information displayed on your screen. Users can search for terms like "dinosaurs" and instantly navigate a timeline of every related instance. It also provides contextual assistance, such as editing suggestions when viewing an image or comparisons for documents viewed side by side.
