Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was thrown into a state of emergency following a suspected AC fire on an Air India flight.
What Happened: According to several media reports on Friday, an alarm was raised on an Air India flight bound for Delhi due to suspicions of an AC fire. This led to an emergency being declared at the IGI Airport.

As per the reports, an Air India flight, AI 807, departed from Delhi at around 6 pm on Friday with 175 passengers on board but had to turn back due to a fire in its air conditioning unit. The aircraft landed safely at IGI Airport at 6:38 pm. No casualties have been reported.
Why It Matters: This incident adds to the growing list of mishaps involving Air India flights. In a previous incident on May 17, 2024, a Delhi-bound Air India flight collided with a luggage tractor at Pune Airport, causing significant damage to the aircraft and delaying the flight. The collision resulted in damage to the aircraft's nose and a tyre near the landing gear, leading to the deboarding of approximately 180 passengers. Despite the collision, all passengers and crew members were safe.
However, passengers were reportedly seated in the aircraft for over an hour without any communication from the crew about the incident. They were eventually informed about the collision and asked to disembark. This series of incidents raises serious concerns about the safety standards of Air India flights.
