Larsen & Toubro has secured a significant order for its Buildings & Factories (B&F) business. The company will construct a Medical College and Hospital Campus at Rajarhat, Kolkata, as part of a project commissioned by the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata.

What Happened: L&T announced the news on Friday. The project, to be executed in two phases over 60 months, will include a 605-bed hospital, a medical college with an annual intake capacity of 150 students, and hostels for students, interns, nurses, and residents. The total built-up area will be 1.21 million square feet. The infra giant said that this is a “significant” order valued between ₹1,000 crore to ₹2,500 crore.

In addition to this order, L&T’s B&F business has also received several add-on orders from its existing jobs, the company said in a statement.

Why It Matters: This announcement comes just a week after L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business secured multiple orders in the renewable energy and grid systems sector, including two floating solar plants and a ground-mounted Solar PV of 120 MWac capacity. The company is also setting up 765 kV Transmission Lines and a Gas Insulated Substation to integrate Solar Energy Zones in Rajasthan and Karnataka.

The company also posted its earnings for the March quarter last week. The conglomerate posted a 10% increase in net profit for the quarter ended March, and L&T’s share price dropped by over 5%. This slump was triggered by several analysts cutting their price target for the stock, disappointed by the company’s margin guidance for the year ending March 2025.
