5 Lakh TCS Employees Will Get Generative AI Training As Firm Looks To Stay Ahead Of Curve

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s foremost IT services exporter, has announced plans to impart generative AI skills to its entire workforce, comprising more than 500,000 software engineers.

What Happened: TCS is preparing for an anticipated rise in the demand for AI products and services, AI Cloud head Siva Ganesan told PTI. The tech giant is in an investment phase, centered on skill development for its employees and potential collaborations with suitable partners.

Despite the limited practical applications of generative AI currently, TCS believes that a significant shift is on the horizon. The company has already trained over 150,000 employees in these abilities in a span of just seven months and aims to maintain this momentum.

Ganesan refrained from sharing a specific timeline for the training completion. However, he voiced confidence in TCS’s capabilities to develop one of the world’s largest AI-equipped workforces in the coming years.

At present, TCS is working on 250 projects powered by generative AI. The knowledge gained from these projects is being harnessed to accelerate its current client assignments.

Why It Matters: This move by TCS underscores the growing importance of AI in the technology sector. As AI continues to evolve, the need for skilled professionals in this domain is projected to increase exponentially.

By training its workforce in Generative AI, TCS is ensuring that it stays at the forefront of this tech revolution, ready to meet the future demand for AI solutions. Furthermore, the company’s commitment to creating AI-ready workforces on a large scale can potentially set a new precedent in the Indian IT industry. The focus on Generative AI also reflects TCS’s proactive approach to harnessing the potential of emerging technologies for business growth and innovation.
