Indian Railways To Launch All-In-One Super App: Here's What We Know

Indian Railways is gearing up to introduce a ‘super app’, aiming to bring its plethora of services under one umbrella, currently scattered across multiple mobile applications.

What Happened: Indian Railways is on its way to developing a comprehensive ‘super app’, consolidating its numerous services, as reported by Economic Times on Tuesday. The Super App will amalgamate various features including ticket booking, train tracking, and more, which are presently available through over twelve different apps.

A high-ranking government official stated that this consolidation will not only simplify the user experience by eliminating the need for multiple downloads but also pave the way for improved synergy and monetisation opportunities. The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the tech arm of the Railway Ministry, will be at the helm of developing this Super App.

Existing apps like Rail Madad, UTS, National Train Enquiry System for commuters, and others such as IRCTC Rail Connect, IRCTC eCatering Food on Track, and IRCTC Air will be integrated into the Super App. The estimated cost for the development and maintenance of this app over three years is around ₹90 crore.

The IRCTC Rail Connect, among the current apps, is the most popular one, with over 100 million downloads to its credit, and serves as the exclusive platform for reserved rail ticket booking.

Why It Matters: This move by Indian Railways is a significant step towards digital consolidation, reflecting a global trend where businesses are increasingly seeking to offer a seamless and integrated digital experience to their customers.

By integrating all its services into a single app, Indian Railways is not only enhancing user convenience but also creating opportunities for better data management and monetisation.
