In a startling revelation, it has been reported that blankets, bed sheets, pillows, and other items worth ₹4 lakh were stolen from trains’ air-conditioned coaches in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, over the last two months. The thieves primarily targeted passengers and, in some instances, were aided by AC coach attendants.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) officials in Bhopal stated that these thefts were mostly carried out by passengers themselves and habitual offenders. The most incidents were recorded on Bhopal Express, which runs from Bhopal to Delhi, and Rewanchal Express.

Interestingly, not just bed sheets and pillows, but even taps installed in wash basins and washrooms of the trains were reportedly stolen. This is largely attributed to the fact that these trains take more than 12 hours to reach their destination, providing ample time for the thieves to commit these acts.

The thefts have caused significant financial damage. In total, 1,503-bed sheets worth ₹2.65 lakh, 189 blankets worth ₹1.9 lakh, and 326 pillows valued at over ₹10,000 were reported stolen. Despite these shocking figures, GRP TI (Bhopal) Zaheer Khan revealed that no recent arrests have been made related to these thefts.
