Walmart Embraces 'Make in India': Hero Cycles Debuts In US Stores

India’s Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu celebrated the debut of made-in-India bicycles at Walmart in the United States. Hero Cycles, based in Ludhiana, crafted these bicycles, marking a proud moment for Indian manufacturing on the global stage.

What Happened? Sandhu shared a photo on X (formerly Twitter) of a blue bicycle manufactured in Ludhiana, marking a significant achievement for the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ initiative.

Walmart’s commitment to Indian products is evident in their recent announcement that the first Indian-made bicycles are now available at select US stores. This move aligns with Walmart’s goal to triple its exports from India to $10 billion annually by 2027.

Walmart’s ‘Make in India’ support: In collaboration with Hero Ecotech, Walmart has introduced a ‘cruiser-style’ bike under the Concord brand, featuring designs for both men and women. Remarkably, over 90% of the materials for these cruisers are sourced from India.

Andrea Albright, Walmart’s Executive Vice President of Sourcing, praised the partnership with Hero Ecotech. She highlighted India’s potential to meet rising product demands and its role in bolstering global supply chain resilience while promoting economic growth.

Additionally, Walmart’s Vriddhi initiative, launched in 2019, supports the ‘Make in India’ campaign by empowering around 50,000 MSMEs, helping them modernize and expand domestically and internationally.
