Amazon's 'Great Indian Festival' Preparations: 1 Lakh New Hires Across Major Cities

In anticipation of the festive rush, Amazon India has rolled out over 1 lakh seasonal job openings across its vast operational framework. Amazon has spread these roles, which span both direct and indirect capacities, across major urban hubs such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, among others.

Why it matters? As touched upon in a PTI report, this hiring spree precedes Amazon’s much-anticipated ‘Great Indian Festival’, slated to kick off on October 8. Prime members, however, will get a head start with early access a day prior.

Amazon India reveals that they’ve already integrated most of these new recruits into their system, prepping them to handle tasks ranging from picking and packing to shipping and delivering orders.

Akhil Saxena, who oversees operations for Amazon in regions including APAC, MENA, and LATAM, expressed the festive season’s significance for the company. He remarked on the addition of this sizable workforce, emphasizing its role in bolstering Amazon’s delivery, service, and fulfilment prowess.

To provide some context on Amazon India’s scale, the company boasts fulfilment centres scattered across 15 Indian states. These centres cumulatively offer a staggering 43 million cubic feet of storage space dedicated to seller inventory.
