Disney Star, the official broadcast and digital media rights holder for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, is projected to hit a revenue home run, with a record-breaking ₹4,000 crore in advertising revenue expected as India prepares to host the prestigious tournament.

What Happened: As reported by BQ Prime, Disney Star has already hit a massive six by securing 24 sponsors and over 500 advertisers for the 45-day event. The broadcaster is not slowing down its run rate and is currently in talks with 4-5 more brands for sponsorship deals, with expectations to attract more advertisers in the upcoming weeks.

The response from advertisers has been as overwhelming as a packed Eden Gardens, reflecting a keen interest to capitalize on the festive season and positive consumer sentiment, according to Ajit Varghese, head of network ad sales at Disney Star.

The ad agencies, who’ve been watching the game closely, are anticipating Disney Star to generate ₹4,000 crore from advertising sales, setting a new record in the process.

Disney Star, boasting a television network that reaches over 700 million viewers and a streaming platform with over 500 million downloads, anticipates capturing the attention of at least 800 million viewers during the World Cup across TV and digital platforms.

Why It Matters: The projected ad revenue speaks volumes about the popularity of cricket in India and its immense potential as an advertising platform. This development also underlines the growing dominance of Disney Star in the Indian broadcasting and digital media landscape. The record-breaking advertising revenue is not just a win for Disney Star but also a testament to the robustness of the Indian advertising market, which continues to thrive despite challenging economic conditions.

This remarkable projection could also catalyse further investment in Indian cricket, paving the way for more lucrative sponsorship deals and heightened global interest in India’s premier cricketing events. As the country gears up to host the World Cup, the eyes of the cricketing and advertising world will undoubtedly be on Disney Star and its performance in this high-stakes game.
