Fans are outraged at Bookmyshow after Trevor Noah‘s Bengaluru shows were abruptly called off due to “technical issues”, leading to demands that the ticket-booking platform should take responsibility for the fiasco.

What Happened: South African comedian Trevor Noah’s performances at the Manpho Convention Centre on September 27 and 28 were called off at the eleventh hour due to poor acoustics. The audience was unable to hear the comedian on stage, leading to the cancellation of the show.

Noah posted an apology on his social media account for causing ”inconvenience and disappointment” to his fans. He ensured that a full refund would be provided to all the ticket holders.

The fans who had managed to navigate the notorious Bengaluru traffic to make it to the show, took to social media to vent their frustration. They held the organisers accountable for the chaos and brought up issues such as inadequate parking space, substandard air conditioning, overcrowded venue, unsanitary washrooms and narrow access roads.

Several X users singled out Bookmyshow for failing to organise the event successfully, with many siding with Noah’s decision of not continuing the event without proper acoustics.

Why It Matters: Bookmyshow has been taken to task over recent issues that have affected fans’ experiences at shows and events. Recently, celebrated music composer A.R. Rahman’s Chennai concert earlier this month turned into a traumatic experience for many due to mismanagement, incidentally also handled by Bookmyshow.

However, Bookmyshow has apologised for the lapse in management of the event, saying all customers will get a full refund within 8-10 days.

The cancellation comes as a blow to Noah’s fans who were eagerly looking forward to the Bengaluru leg of his ‘Off The Record’ tour. The comedian had successfully begun the Indian segment of his tour in New Delhi on September 23. After Bengaluru, he is scheduled to perform at the NSCI Dome in Mumbai on September 30 and October 1.
