Government-backed oil companies have cut the prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders by ₹99.75 per cylinder starting from Tuesday. Now, a 19 kg cooking gas cylinder will cost ₹1,680 in Delhi, with prices in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai being ₹1,802.50, ₹1,640.50, and ₹1,852.50 respectively, as per ANI sources.

These prices are adjusted on the first day of each month. After the last hike on March 1, prices went down by ₹91.50 per cylinder in April, ₹171.50 in May and ₹83.50 in June.

No change in domestic LPG prices: There’s no change in the prices of 14.2 kg LPG cylinders or domestic cooking gas cylinders, last revised on March 1 this year. In Delhi, such a cylinder costs ₹1,103, with prices in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai being ₹1,129, ₹1,102.50, and ₹1,118.50 respectively.

Are LPG prices likely to rise again? In response to growing concerns about India’s rising LPG prices, Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, told the Rajya Sabha that India imports over 60% of its LPG consumption and its prices directly connect to the international market.

Puri reassured that the government is continuing to provide subsidies to eligible beneficiaries. Specifically, he mentioned a targeted subsidy of ₹200 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills a year for beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for 2022-23 and 2023-24.
