Shark Tank Judge Threatens To Cancel Planned Purchase Of Tesla Over Twitter's Blue Tick Removal

Anupam Mittal, the popular Shark Tank India judge and founder of Shaadi.com, was furious with Twitter for removing his legacy ‘blue tick’, as he took to the microblogging platform to announce that he was cancelling his ‘planned purchase of a Tesla’ after what had just happened.

What Happened? Twitter recently removed the legacy verified blue checkmarks from the accounts of many high-profile individuals, including Anupam Mittal, almost a month after announcing that users would have to buy a Twitter Blue subscription to retain the coveted tick.

Mittal expressed his displeasure with the move and took a jibe at Elon Musk, stating that he would cancel his plans to buy a Tesla, leading to mixed responses on Twitter.

Some users suggested he simply pay up the monthly fee for the verification badge, while others accused him of hypocrisy, as his own platform charges a premium for similar services.

Elon Musk restored the badge for users with over a million followers over the last weekend and even said he was personally paying for some celebrities’ Twitter Blue subscriptions to retain their checkmarks.

Meanwhile, a host of other high-profile individuals such as Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, CM Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma have also lost their verified blue ticks for a short period of time. However, the coveted checkmarks returned after some of them subscribed to ‘Twitter Blue.' Twitter also mysteriously returned blue ticks for accounts with over 1M followers.
