Apple Inc. AAPL will introduce its new 5G iPhone on Tuesday and now is a good time to launch a next-generation device, Recode's Kara Swisher said on CNBC's "Squawk Alley."

5G Device: The 5G cycle is still in the very early stages of a buildout although it is being rolled out, Swisher said. This is no different than any other technology upgrade and now is a good time for Apple to start convincing its users they will need a faster device.

Apple will also be emphasizing features beyond 5G, such as the improved camera or headphones.

Creating a phone that is mere "marginally better" than the prior iPhone 11 isn't good enough to convince consumers to spend a lot of money on a new device, she said. Apple could see success if it convinces consumers it's much more than just a 5G device.

'More Interested' In Cheaper Devices: Despite all the hype around a 5G phone, Swisher said she is "more interested" in a lower-priced option. Apple in prior years offered less flexibility and choice, but the iPhone maker adapted over the years to give customers different options and different price points.

Apple needs to be flexible in pricing amid the COVID-19 pandemic as consumers may no longer "feel a real affiliation to all their technologies since they needed to use so much of it" over the past few months, Swisher said.
