Amazon India is planning to relocate its corporate headquarters from the northwest part of Bengaluru to a location near the city’s airport. This decision is a part of the e-commerce giant’s cost-cutting measures.

What Happened: Amazon India is preparing to leave its current office in the World Trade Centre, a property of Brigade Enterprises Ltd, as per a Mint report. The company currently occupies nearly half a million square feet across eighteen floors of the thirty-floor building.

The impending move has sparked concerns about Brigade Enterprises’ ability to find a new tenant and the potential impact on the rental income of nearby flats.

The new office in Sattva, a short 15-minute drive from the airport, is projected to cost less than a third of the nearly ₹250 per sq. ft. rent that Amazon presently pays, according to two company executives. The relocation process is slated to start in April 2025 and conclude by April 2026.

Amazon confirmed the development, stating that the shift to a new campus is aimed at enhancing collaboration and delivering an unparalleled employee experience. However, the decision has been met with some resistance from employees, who are displeased about the increased commute to the new location.

Brigade Enterprises clarified that Amazon has not terminated its lease agreement with them, suggesting that the e-commerce behemoth might maintain some presence at the current location.
