Apple Inc. AAPL has begun working on new security measures on its iPhone that would make it impossible for a government agency to break into a locked iPhone, according to a report from The New York Times.

Apple's new safety concerns comes at a time when the company is under heavy political pressure to help the FBI unlock an iPhone device used by a terrorist in the San Bernardino attack.

Apple's position remains unchanged that it has no plans to offer the FBI or any law enforcement agency back-door access to all of its devices. The company acknowledged in a Q&A that it is "technically possible" to unlock an iPhone device and access stored information.

However, The New York Times noted that if Apple upgrades its current security features, it will create a "significant technical challenge" for law enforcement agencies.

Cnet also commented on Apple's new security upgrades and suggested any future improvements would make an iPhone "unhackable ."

Shares of Apple were trading lower by 0.04 percent at $96.06 after more than one hour of trading on Thursday.
