The Indian Railways has announced changes to the time limit for advanced ticket bookings via IRCTC.
What Happened: Customers will now be allowed to book their tickets 60 days in advance instead of 120 days, excluding the date of their journey, the Ministry of Railways said in a statement. The changes will take effect from November 1.
Bookings made until October 31, 2024, under the former 120-day advance reservation period (ARP) will continue to be valid. Cancellation of bookings made beyond the ARP of 60 days will be permitted.
Shares of IRCTC took a hit, dipping below 2%, after the announcement was made.

Certain day-time express trains such as the Taj Express and Gomti Express, which currently have shorter time limits for advance reservations, will not see any alterations in their booking policy. The 365-day limit for foreign tourists will also remain the same, the statement added.
The decision to reduce the advance reservation period to 60 days was reportedly made keeping various factors in mind, including allowing people to plan spontaneous travel, improving itinerary accuracy, enhancing planning, adapting to changing demands, responding to events, reducing cancellations and no-shows, and facilitating better passenger flow.
Price Action: IRCTC shares closed 2.43% lower at ₹870.90 on Thursday.
