Larsen & Toubro Limited has announced the acquisition of an order for the design and construction of Agra Metro Phase 1, Line -2.

What Happened: The Heavy Civil Infrastructure division of Larsen & Toubro has been awarded the order by Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (UPMRCL). The project entails the design and construction of a 15.09 km elevated viaduct, 14 stations, and a 2.61 km depot.

The metro line will connect Agra Cantonment to Kalindi Vihar, linking Sadar Bazar to PAC Depot. The project also includes architectural finishes for the stations and electrical & mechanical works.

The project is expected to be completed within 30 months and is seen as a crucial step in improving urban mobility in Agra. The order is classified as “significant” by the company, implying that is worth between ₹1,000 crore-₹2,500 crore.

This latest order follows a series of significant contracts bagged by Larsen & Toubro. In August 2024, the company secured a large-scale infrastructure project under the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) Project in Maharashtra. The project, awarded by the City and Industrial Development Corporation Limited (CIDCO), involved the construction of wide roads, various major & minor structures, and allied electrical works.

In September 2024, the company announced a “mega” order to build advanced grid systems in the Middle East. The Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) division of Larsen & Toubro secured new orders in the Middle East for the expansion and strengthening of electricity grids at high voltage levels.

Price Action: L&T’s share price shot up sharply after the announcement was made but moderated soon after. L&T shares were up 0.18% to trade at ₹3,558.25 in early trade on Wednesday.
