Coal India has announced its joint venture with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) to venture into the renewable energy business in Rajasthan.

The joint venture agreement reveals a 74% and 26% shareholding pattern between Coal India and RRVUNL respectively. The Joint Venture Company will be incorporated as a private limited company with an initial paid-up share capital of ₹10,00,000.

Coal India and RRVUNL will have the right to nominate directors for the Joint Venture Company, with Coal India nominating four executives and RRVUNL nominating two.

Last, Coal India entered into a joint venture with GAIL (India) to establish a Coal to Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) project at Eastern Coal Field, with the coal mining major holding a majority stake of 51% in the joint venture. This move was aimed at setting up an SNG plant at Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL), Bardhaman, West Bengal.

In August, the company announced its decision to increase coal supplies beyond the Annual Contracted Quantity (ACQ) for thermal power plants, including independent power plants (IPPs). This strategic move is expected to benefit power plants that are keen on lifting higher quantities of coal beyond their specified ACQ.
