Jupiter Wagons Renames Subsidiary, Announces Capacity Expansion

Jupiter Wagons has announced a strategic transformation of its subsidiary, Bonatrans India Private, which will now operate under the name Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory Private.

What Happened: Alongside the renaming, the company unveiled plans for a substantial capacity expansion for this subsidiary, marked by the establishment of a new manufacturing facility in Odisha.

The new plant, outfitted with advanced production lines for forged wheelsets, is projected to boost the annual production capacity from the existing 20,000 forged wheelsets to 100,000 forged wheelsets per annum by 2027.

The project, which involves an investment of approximately ₹2,500 crore, will cater to both domestic and international markets, with about half of the production capacity earmarked for exports.

The transformation is in line with Jupiter Wagons’ strategy to bolster the “Make in India” initiative, enhancing India’s manufacturing prowess and fortifying the company’s position in the global supply chain. 

The project will also augment operational efficiency in Jupiter Wagons' wagon manufacturing business through complete backward integration. The company has entrusted a contract to Schuler Pressen GmbH, a German engineering company, for the supply and erectionof the fully integrated forged wheel and axle line.
