The Adani Group threatened legal action against those spreading “false narratives” against the conglomerate after a fake press release from the company was found to be doing the rounds on social media and was even mistakenly shared by a Supreme Court lawyer.
What Happened: The Adani Group has issued a strong rebuttal against fraudulent press releases being circulated online, including one falsely titled “Adani Group Denounces Baseless Accusations and Threats”.
The report apparently claims to address the company's presence in Kenya, where the company recently won a $1.3 billion (₹10,904 crore) power transmission deal despite facing backlash from unions and the opposition over the transfer of management of the country's primary airport to the company.

Fooled You Once…: The fake press release supposedly threatened to reveal the names of government shareholders who had allegedly “benefitted” from its investments in Kenya and individuals who had taken “bribes” from the company. This caught the attention of advocate Sanjay Hegde, who shared the press release on X, formerly Twitter, not knowing at the time that the press release was false. Hegde had panned the group for admitting guilt.
However, Hegde later removed the tweet after being informed that the press release was fake.
Legal Action: In an official statement, the Adani Group clarified that neither it nor any of its subsidiaries have released any such statements related to Kenya. The company condemned these fraudulent acts and urged the public to disregard the false press releases entirely.
The Adani Group also said it would pursue legal action against individuals or entities involved in spreading these fake narratives.
The group reminded the media and the public that all official press releases are available on their websites and encouraged media outlets and influencers to verify facts and sources before publishing any news related to the company.
“We strongly condemn this deceitful act and will take legal action against anyone involved in spreading false narratives,” said a spokesperson for the Adani Group.
