Forian Inc. FORA, a provider of technology, analytics and data science-driven solutions for the healthcare and cannabis industries, announced that New York has selected BioTrack for the Office of Cannabis Management’s seed-to-sale tracking system, per a press release.
“We are honored to have been selected again as New York's seed-to-sale system. It’s an exciting time in the New York cannabis industry, and we look forward to our part in helping launch adult-use sales,” said Moe Afaneh, vice president of BioTrack.
What's It About?
The BioTrack software, used by customers in 38 states and 13 countries, will track marijuana from when it is first planted as a seed to the final point of sale to consumers.
New York’s Cannabis Management office plans to use BioTrack to monitor the movement of marijuana products in the state’s new recreational cannabis market and will continue monitoring the MMJ market by providing a real-time inventory of available and sold products to prevent "unlawful diversion."
All licensed medical and recreational cannabis licensees will be required to integrate their own inventory and/or sale tracking systems with BioTrack to log seed-to-sale movement, which involves growing, manufacturing into other products, packaging, testing and selling to qualifying patients or consumers.
BioTrack’s government traceability system, currently used by 12 state governments, including New York, could also help recall cannabis plants and products deemed as unsafe/adulterated, and prevent adulterated and regulated materials from reaching the illicit market.
NY Safe & Legal
Gov. Kathy Hochul recently unveiled a “New York State Licensed Cannabis Dispensary” verification tool. The new system would assure consumers that the products they are purchasing are safe and legal.
“It’s critical for New York’s cannabis consumers to understand the risks of buying untested, illicit products and to have the tools to guide them to the safer, legal market that’s poised to open,” Hochul said.
