<p>After a robust financial year, the Indian markets would start FY25 kicking off the earnings season. With the initial results coming in, the markets have seen some sharp movements and the upcoming weeks could see a lot more of that.</p>



<p>So we sat down with <strong>Chola Securities</strong>' head of equity research&nbsp;<strong>Dharmesh Kant</strong>&nbsp;to understand what one can expect from the March quarter earnings and how the market could react to it.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-q4-overview">Q4 Overview</h2>



<p>&#8220;I think it would be anywhere around 17% to 20% kind of earnings growth. And going by the business update that has come out across the board, things are looking quite robust,&#8221; said Kant.</p>



<p>He adds that his target Nifty EPS (earnings per share) target for FY24 should also be met as the Q4 numbers come in. &#8220;My Nifty EPS target of around 1,020, 1,050 for FY24 is likely to be met when this quarter&#8217;s earnings are rolled out because the latest swing in the input prices will not be reflected in any of the companies because there&#8217;s a time lag. So Q1 of FY 25 would be a difficult one. But Q4 FY24, I think we will pass through with flying colours,&#8221; Kant told Benzinga India.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-winners">The Winners</h2>



<p>Sharing his views on which sectors could bring happiness to investors this quarter, Kant said that BFSI, Auto, Realty, Metals, and Banks are some sectors to watch out for. </p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-bfsi">BFSI </h3>



<p>&#8220;If you look at the BFSI segment, in their business update, they reported in excess of 20% kind of an AUM growth along with the deposit base also increasing hand in hand. So there is not much of a slippage out there. The same has been the case with private sector banks where you know, growth has been in excess of high teens, 17%-18% kind of a growth. And similarly, deposit growth has also gone in the same direction,&#8221; said Kant. For the public sector banks, he said that the growth has been in the early teens again, as has been in the case of late.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-auto">Auto</h3>



<p>Talking about the sector, Kant said that it could be mixed as some companies have shown good volumes while others have had a quieter quarter.</p>



<p>&#8220;In Q4 <strong>TVS, Bajaj Auto</strong> did well because of the exposure to the other side of the world and the exports were the ones which picked up that was the reason why they were able to deliver more than 20% kind of quarterly growth on the volume sales. At the same time, if you look at companies like Hero MotoCorp, it was struggling. It was a high single-digit kind of growth on the volumes and this shows that the entry-level segment is still struggling.&#8221; </p>



<p>Talking about the four-wheeler segment Kant mentioned that <strong>Maruti</strong> and <strong>Tata Motors</strong> have both done good numbers. Talking about what to expect from the companies in the new financial year, he said, &#8220;I think volumes will still be there for like Maruti and all. But what will happen for these companies is the margins will come under pressure. The first half auto companies will sail through, be it two-wheeler or four-wheeler on the passenger vehicle side. But the second half would be challenging.&#8221;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-metals">Metals</h3>



<p>Another segment that Kant expects to do well this earnings season is Metals. &#8220;Volume growth has been there, be it steel manufacturers or the iron ore producers, even coal mining that has done pretty well. If you look at <strong>Hindalco</strong>, copper, aluminium, and zinc, every segment has been doing well. Silver has seen a very good volume growth. So these companies will come out with a decent set of numbers. But I think we&#8217;ll see better numbers play out in Q1 FY25,&#8221; said Kant.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-real-estate">Real Estate</h3>



<p>&#8220;Real estate companies are seeing good traction. Most of these companies are likely to come out with a stellar set of numbers for this quarter. We have seen the business update, be it <strong>Macrotech Developers</strong>, <strong>Godrej Properties</strong> and all. And this is a cyclical business. I mean, the quarter in which the new launches are there, bookings are there, they book their revenues very fast, but this quarter will be great. So to sum it up, I&#8217;m expecting around 15% to 20%, kind of earnings growth,&#8221; said Kant.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-trouble-areas">The Trouble Areas</h2>



<p>Moving on from sectors that have bright earnings ahead, we asked Kant about what sectors he thinks might find it difficult this earnings season.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-information-technology">Information Technology</h3>



<p>The IT sector has remained subdued for quite some time now. So we asked Kant, whether there is some hope of things changing soon. </p>



<p>&#8220;IT is another segment that would be watched very closely. Last time most of the companies either maintained their guidance or trimmed their guidance in a much narrower band. This time the management guidance and commentary would be a litmus test on the prices of the stocks because the last one and a half months have seen a recent stock price correction in the IT companies and if this time around they are able to maintain their guidance or up their guidance even marginally, things will pick up,&#8221; Kant remarked.</p>



<p>Talking about the market leader in the segment TCS, Kant said that he does not expect any big surprises. &#8220;I don&#8217;t think any blockbuster earnings growth is going to come out. The only thing is, if it&#8217;s not poorer than what it was last quarter, it will suffice.&#8221;</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-fmcg">FMCG</h3>



<p>Another segment that has been in a bit of a lull has been the fast-moving consumer goods sector. Talking about whether that could change this earnings season Kant said, &#8220;FMCG has seen a slight uptick in volume going by the numbers reported by say <strong>Marico</strong> or <strong>Adani Wilmar</strong> and all. So better than Q3. Q3 was not so good for the FMCG segment. I&#8217;m expecting around say mid-single-digit kind of a volume growth from low-single-digit last time around and margins to be stable.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-chemicals">Chemicals</h3>



<p>Talking about the chemicals sectors, Kant said that while the stocks have seen some run-up, fundamentally things have not changed as much. He adds that the companies could see a turnaround starting Q1FY25.</p>



<p>&#8220;Q1FY25 does look promising for chemical segment because if you look at the manufacturing activity in most of the developed geographies, they are now showing signs of improvement. US just moved into an expansionary mode on the manufacturing side. China is coming up slowly. Germany saw 2.1% kind of a manufacturing growth playing out. So, I think if Europe picks up then I believe that again chemicals will come into swing because most of the chemical companies have their intermediaries or intermediate products being sold majorly to European countries where there was a slowdown,&#8221; Kant added.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-results-after-the-results">The Results After The Results</h2>



<p>Just as the earnings season would wrap up, the country will wait for another major result to come out, the Lok Sabha elections. So we asked Kant, how he sees the markets performing in the run-up to the election results and what could one expect post results.</p>



<p>&#8220;If you look at the texture of the market, this market is discounting that nothing can go wrong. So that is the only worry for this market. As far as the elections are concerned. I think that&#8217;s already done and dusted. The results are something that everyone knows in their mind and so the market has fully discounted that.&#8221;</p>



<p>Talking about interest rates, another major factor that could provide impetus to market, Kant said that he does not see any rate cuts anytime soon. &#8220;The talk is about cutting of interest rate but I think there can be a situation when you are looking at further hiking of interest rate to just to control commodity inflation has picked up.&#8221;</p>

Chola Securities&#39; Dharmesh Kant On Markets As Earnings Kickoff: &#39;This Market Is Discounting That Nothing Can Go Wrong&#39;

<p>Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) fuel economic growth and drive social development, especially in developing nations like India. However, to reinforce this backbone, it&#8217;s crucial to remove their growth barriers and the struggle to secure financing from traditional banks often creates many of these barriers. <p>&#8220;In the market, there are either balance sheet-driven lenders or match-making platforms, whereas VoloFin is a multi-lender platform, whereby we have onboarded various lenders including banks, and provide an end-to-end solution to them,&#8221; Shah states. </p>



<p>This not only streamlines the financing process but also shields suppliers from buyer non-payment risks, offering collateral-free financing and leveraging a tech platform for full-stack supply chain solutions.</p>



<p>Shah explains that there are either monoline factoring companies in India or outside India financing cross-border trades or newly formed TReDS (online electronic platform for factoring of trade receivables) platforms, which operate like deal sourcing/match-making platforms.</p>



<p>Shah and his team provide a number of services to clients including protection against buyer non-payment risks and letting suppliers operate without the fear of financial loss. The company also provides collateral-free financing options, which simplify access to necessary funds without the burden of securing loans with physical assets. </p>



<p>Volofin&#8217;s tech platform rapidly processes KYC and compliance by carefully integrating with various government, legal, and logistical databases, which ensures efficient and accurate information flow.</p>



<p>Under Shah&#8217;s leadership, VoloFin has achieved remarkable growth milestones, including a 35-40% expansion rate month-over-month and quarter-over-quarter. The platform recently celebrated financing over $100 million in receivables.</p>

<p>Shah explains that 2023 was a banner year for VoloFin, marked by strategic partnerships and industry-first achievements. Notable highlights include the onboarding of India Exim Finserve IFSC Private Ltd. — a subsidiary of the Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) that offers trade finance and related services to Indian exporters; and pioneering the first invoice factoring transaction on the ITFS platform, a service that helps exporters and importers get credit from global institutions through factoring, forfaiting, and other trade financing services.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How is VoloFin assisting SMEs beyond banking?</h3>



<p>VoloFin&#8217;s impact on SMEs, particularly in tier-2 cities, has been immense, claims Shah. &#8220;We are the only fintech providing end-to-end solutions, from origination to collection, including credit protection with Insurance to platform lenders,&#8221; Shah explains. This Fintech Company Is Helping Small Businesses Fix Their Short-Term Cash Flow Needs

<p>The Shark Tank is a great place to find out about the different and innovative startups that are coming up in the country. One such startup, that has gained a lot of eyeballs with their appearance on the tank is <strong>Prorata Car</strong>. The <a href="https://in.benzinga.com/content/32980243/this-startup-wants-to-help-you-own-a-brand-new-thar-for-1-5-lakh">fractional car ownership company </a>bagged an investment from sharks<strong> Peyush Bansal </strong>and <strong>Anupam Mittal</strong>. The company raised ₹50 lakhs in equity at a valuation of ₹5 crore and another 50 lakhs as debt.</p>



<p>We spoke to the company&#8217;s founder <strong>Sanjeev Jain</strong> to find out about his experience in the tank and what&#8217;s next for his startup. Here are the excerpts from the interview.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Shark Tank Experience</h2>



<p>&#8220;It was a one-of-a-kind experience because we are not used to any kind of TV shows or even facing the camera,&#8221; this is how Jain describes his appearance on the popular reality show.</p>



<p>Talking about the road to Shark Tank, Jain told Benzinga India that &#8220;the journey started when we got a call from the show saying that you must apply. At that time, we were still in the early stages, so we were doing multiple pilot runs in different societies trying to estimate our product and services.</p>



<p>So my thought process was basically to apply next year. I worried that we are a pre-revenue company and we may not get funding and if you don&#8217;t get funding in Shark Tank, then the public sees you in a different way altogether,&#8221; Jain added.</p>



<p>&#8220;But we took the plunge and applied. We got through the first round. Then we got a zoom round then we got the audition so multiple processes and then finally shoot happened around November-December.&#8221;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Impact</h2>



<p>Shark Tank India is not only seen as a place to bag investors it is also a great platform to advertise and market one&#8217;s brand. We&#8217;ve heard about many brands that saw increased interest in terms of sales and publicity after their episode aired. So we asked Jain, what reactions they were getting after the episode aired.</p>



<p>&#8220;After the show aired, we are getting good traction on app downloads and also a lot of interest from investors. We&#8217;ve had more than 10 investors reach out and show interest. Some of them are VCS and a lot of angel investors reached out to us.&#8221;</p>



<p>Apart from this he also added that customers have also started seeing the brand in a different light and Shark Tank has provided the business with validation. As per Jain, this trust factor that has been brought by the appearance on national television has made it easier for the company to reach out to its customers.</p>



<p>When asked how the show and being on TV has impacted his life personally and  whether he was getting stopped in the street now, Jain said &#8220;Once you participate in a national television show, whether you go to any restaurants or somewhere at least one or two people will recognize you, we are not celebrities but at least startup world community love to talk to us.&#8221;</p>



<p>He added that whenever people walk up to him and stop him he starts pitching them the idea and the company to garner interest. Jain also spoke about how the best part of the whole thing was the happiness of his kids. &#8220;My kids regularly watch Shark Tank and when your kids see you in the Shark Tank pitching in front of the Sharks and all those things that&#8217;s the real happiness.&#8221;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What&#8217;s It&#8217;s Like In The Tank?</h2>



<p>A common thing every Shark Tank viewer imagines is what would it be like to be in the Tank. Here&#8217;s what Jain told us about his experience.</p>



<p>&#8220;To be honest at the very beginning of the pitch, I was a little nervous because I have never faced a camera even in my marriage. I&#8217;m not a camera person. But after that, when the Q&amp;A started, I gave all the people proper, to-the-point answers because I had full clarity about my business. And I think That&#8217;s why we are getting a lot of good comments on the Shark Tube YouTube channel.&#8221;</p>



<p>Talking about the sharks that chose to take a bet on him and his company Jain said that both Anupam Mittal and Peyush Bansal understood the business and also asked some pretty insightful questions. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What&#8217;s Next?</h2>



<p>Talking about the way ahead Jain said, &#8220;We are now confident enough that in the next three months, we will deploy at least anything between 50-100 cars. So we are on the path of getting our product market fit and raising an institutional round of around $2 to $5 million. That will help us scale and grow exponentially.&#8221;</p>



<p>Talking about the Shark Tank due diligence, Jain said that most of it was done and the cheque should hit their bank soon. &#8220;It&#8217;s a process of three months, we are already two months into the process. Since we were pre-revenue at that point in time, there was not a lot of paperwork. Their lawyers had approached and they asked us for the documents, we have submitted a lot of documents, some we will submit and it should be completed soon.&#8221;</p>

Prorata Car&#39;s Sanjeev Jain On Life After Shark Tank: &#39;The Real Happiness Is...&#39;

<p>Since the start of the year, a sector that has been in the spotlight is the tourism sector. For various reasons, people from across the board have been talking about travel and hospitality. </p>



<p>We caught up with one of the startups that has been in the tourism space for quite some time to talk about the company, its plans and the rise of the sector in the country. Here are the excerpts from our interview with <strong>Pranav Dangi</strong>, founder and CEO, <strong>The Hosteller</strong>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Hosteller</h2>



<p>&#8220;The Hosteller is India&#8217;s largest operating brand of backpacker hostels. We are building backpacker hostels which is inspired by the European concept of hospitality. And we are one of the first movers to start this segment in the country,&#8221; this is how Dangi described his startup. </p>



<p>He added that the company currently operates 55 different properties across India. &#8220;We are roughly in around 50 cities spread over 10 states in the country.&#8221; </p>



<p>Talking about the idea behind the company Dangi told Benzinga India that it came from his experience of travelling across India. &#8220;The need for this product in the country is that there is an absolute dearth of infrastructure within the three-star and below segment which is what we are trying to standardize. In budget hospitality, we want to offer high-quality services and a better hospitality experience for under ₹1000.&#8221; </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tourism Sector</h2>



<p>While the sector has garnered a lot of attention in the past few months, it was also one of the worst affected when the pandemic hit. So we asked Dangi about the recent developments in the sector and how he sees it growing going ahead.</p>



<p>&#8220;The tourism industry after COVID has really picked up. We were the worst affected industry by COVID. However, the support of people in terms of revenge travel, in terms of India gaining more popularity, I would say the entire world has definitely helped the sector in coming up or rebounding at a much faster pace than any other sector. And we are capitalising on it as a company. </p>



<p>If you would see, the majority of our expansion has happened after COVID. And we are very positive and upbeat about the fact that the next few years, I would say the next five years are tremendous for this sector. There are a lot of opportunities that are coming our way, the entire political, financial and social stability in the country is promoting the sector a lot.&#8221;</p>



<p>A lot of the comeback in the sector in the past year has been attributed to revenge travel and pent-up demand, but Dangi believes that the pent-up demand is not there anymore. But he says there has been a noticeable shift in the lifestyle where people are willing to take more breaks and enjoy life. &#8220;The shift in the psychology of the country has happened where they have started taking breaks from their professional lives and are trying to have a better work-life balance. So people have moved towards improving the quality of life. And that to some extent has increased the demand for travel in the country,&#8221; he added.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Expansion</h2>



<p>As mentioned above, the CEO said that most of the expansion for the company happened after COVID-19. So we asked him about the company&#8217;s expansion plans going forward in terms of offerings and geographies.</p>



<p>&#8220;So, till now our primary audience has been anywhere from 18 to 35 years of age and the demand has always been high in this particular segment. Most of them are Gen Z, Millennials who are experimental people who want to travel every three months, though tight on budget.</p>



<p>However, a new product that we are soon going to launch will cater to the upper middle class plus a little bit of a higher class audience where our prices would range from ₹7500 up to ₹15,000 per night a room. So yes, we are expanding our target audience. We do not want to only cater to the 18 to 35 demographic.&#8221;</p>



<p>Talking about the hotspots and geographies that the company has been looking to expand and enter Dangi said, &#8220;So at this moment, our primary portfolio is heavily dependent on the northern part of the country. The company is now building itself in the southern part of the country as well. </p>



<p>We are coming up with new destinations like Gokarna in Karnataka, Vagamon and Varkala in Kerala. So, we are focused heavily on the southern part of the country for the next six months. Once we stabilize ourselves over there, then I think our portfolio will be equally divided between North and South. And early next year we plan to move to the northeast part of the country as well.&#8221;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Numbers</h2>



<p>The company plans to double its GMV (Gross Merchandise Value) to ₹100 crore and increase its total customers to 1.5 lakh for the year 2024.  So we asked Dangi about the company&#8217;s plan to achieve this explosive growth. </p>



<p>&#8220;We want to by the end of this year become a pan India brand. Right now we are I would say in 10 states itself but by the end of this year, we should be at least in 17 to 18 states of the country. Our expansion is going to come through two brands or I would say three brands. Primarily the business or the reputation has been built from the Hosteller brand, but it is now time to make the entire company a house of brands. So our focus will be over there.&#8221;</p>
