Which Is The Best Month To Invest In The Nifty?

With the benchmark index Nifty hovering near 25,000 levels which month has provided the best returns historically? According to 24 years of data from 2000 to 2023, November provided the best returns in a month while investing in Nifty. We haven't included data for 2024 in the calculation. 

The average return in November was at 2.89%. November displayed its performance in the year 2005 when it clocked a return of 11.86%. 

The second best performing month is December with an average return of 2.80%. In 2003, December gave a 16.38% return.

February is the worst-performing month with an average decline of 0.30%. February's best performance came in 2000 when it gave a return of 7.02% while its worst performance was in 2007 when it fell 8.26%. 

March is the second worst-performing month with an average decline of 0.29%. In 2016, March gave a 10.75% return, marking its best performance while in 2020, the Covid year, it fell 23.25%. 

The best individual month performance was in May 2009 when the index gave a 28.07% return. The worst was in October 2008 when the Nifty fell by 26.41%.
