Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn is reportedly planning a major expansion in India. The company intends to assemble Apple iPads at its facility in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant step in its Indian operations.
What Happened: Apple’s flagship iPads could soon be assembled in India as the Taiwanese contract manufacturer may start assembling iPads at its facility located in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, the Economic Times reported.
Until now, Foxconn’s India-based units and other global contract manufacturers have only assembled Apple's smartphones.

This decision is part of Foxconn’s larger strategy to diversify its production bases globally, especially in the wake of ongoing US-China trade tensions. The company is also keen on leveraging the Indian government’s production-linked incentive scheme for IT hardware, which was introduced to stimulate domestic manufacturing and exports.
Although Foxconn has not officially confirmed these plans, the move is likely to give a significant boost to India’s electronics manufacturing sector and generate new jobs in the region.
Earlier, it was previously reported that Apple was considering plans to manufacture iPads in India. The tech giant is also said to be eyeing Pune for producing AirPod cases.
