Google Maps is set to introduce metro ticket booking services in Kochi and Chennai, in collaboration with the mobility app, Namma Yatri.
What Happened: Google Maps, in partnership with the government-supported Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and Namma Yatri, has announced that passengers in Kochi and Chennai will be able to book metro tickets through the platform starting this week, Moneycontrol reported.

The entire booking and payment process will be facilitated by Namma Yatri. The booking option will appear when users search for public transport directions in these cities. After selecting the option, users will be guided through the booking and payment process, and receive a QR code ticket, eliminating the need for standing in queues at the station.
Google, an investor in Moving Tech Innovations, the parent company of Namma Yatri, has plans to expand this feature to more cities and other modes of public transport in collaboration with Namma Yatri and ONDC.
Anal Ghosh, the product lead for Google Maps experiences in India, stated that while Namma Yatri also offers auto and cab-booking services, Google is focusing solely on public transport modes.
Google Maps have also introduced artificial intelligence-powered features in India which includes helping four-wheeler drivers reduce the use of narrow roads while driving and calling out flyovers along their routes.
Google is also planning to provide information about electric-vehicle charging stations on both Google Maps and Google Search in India.
