Tata Power, NHPC Partner To Solarize Govt Buildings Nationwide By Dec 2025

In a significant move towards renewable energy, Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) and NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NHPC-REL) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement rooftop solar projects across government buildings in India under Central Ministries, States, and Union Territories.

What Happened: The MoU which was inked on Thursday, under the auspices of the PM Surya Ghar Yojna Scheme, is targeting 100% solarisation of government-owned buildings by December 2025.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has designated NHPC Limited as a Scheme Implementing Partner (SIP) to spearhead the Rooftop Solar Projects (RTS Projects), to be executed by its wholly-owned subsidiary, NHPC-REL. TPREL, a renowned leader in the solar energy sector, will leverage its vast expertise to ensure the smooth and timely completion of these projects.

“We are thrilled to partner with NHPC-REL in this significant endeavour to solarize government buildings across India,” expressed Deepesh Nanda, CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited.

RP Goyal, chairman and managing director of NHPC echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Our partnership with Tata Power Renewables aligns perfectly with our mission to broaden the use of renewable energy in India. This initiative will not only help us achieve our solarisation targets but also contribute significantly to reducing the carbon footprint of government buildings.”
