This article lists the top Nifty sectoral and thematic indices managed by the National Stock Exchange with the highest returns in the last year.
What Happened: The National Stock Exchange recently launched the Nifty EV and New Age Automotive index to allow investors to invest in companies active in electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, hydrogen fuel-based vehicles and green hybrid vehicles.
According to the Association of Mutual Funds of India (AMFI) data, sectoral and thematic funds saw the most inflows in June among equity funds. These funds had an inflow of ₹22,351.69 crore driven by new fund offers (NFOs), where nine new funds collected ₹12,974 crore. These thematic funds often use sectoral indices as benchmark indices for their funds.

Nifty Realty was the top-performing index in the last year, with a return of 112.45%. The top stocks in the index such as Macrotech Developers and Godrej Properties delivered over 100% return in the last year.
The Nifty CPSE, which tracks the central public sector enterprises, was the second-highest-performing index with a 108.93% return. Among the top stocks in the index, Bharat Electronics clocked a return of 166% in the last year.
The Nifty PSU Bank index registered a 79.21% return and was the third-highest index. Canara Bank was the best performer among the top stocks.
The Nifty Energy index and Nifty Auto index were the fourth- and fifth-highest with a 69.21% and 66.37% return, respectively. NTPC gave investors a return of 95%, the highest among the top stocks while Mahindra and Mahindra surged 73% to be among the Nifty Auto top three.
Value Research data shows among the equity-oriented and hybrid NFOs launched from January 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, sector and thematic funds collected among the highest inflows.
