Reliance Industries is reportedly preparing to welcome Shein onto its app and physical stores four years after the Chinese fast-fashion brand was banned in the country.

What Happened: Shein's products could feature in Reliance's app and outlets in coming weeks, as per a report by The Economic Times.

Reliance Retail is poised to appoint former Meta (Facebook) director Manish Chopra to lead Shein’s operations in India, the report added.

This development comes four years after India prohibited Shein from selling products on its own app, as part of a broader crackdown on Chinese apps amid heightened border tensions with Beijing. Last year, Reliance signed a strategic partnership with Shein to reintroduce the Chinese fashion giant to the Indian market.

Under the licensing agreement between Reliance and Shein, the latter will reportedly use India as a supply base for its global operations and increase exports of textiles and garments from India as it looks to reduce its dependence on China.

Reliance Retail will reportedly use technology and expertise to integrate a network of over 25,000 micro, medium and small enterprises to create a parallel global supply chain from India. However, Both the application and all sensitive data will be hosted and stored within India, the report added.

The retailer is also said to be establishing boutique studios in chosen European cities to track Western fast fashion trends and swiftly introduce them to India. These operations will reportedly be managed by a company wholly owned by Reliance Retail, with no equity involvement from Sheen.

Price Action: Shares of Reliance were trading 0.68% up at ₹3,125.85.
