Co-founded in 2021 by Priyanka Chopra and Maneesh Goyal amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Sona became popular for its Indian dishes in the city. However, Chopra exited the venture in 2023, nearly two years after its launch.
The restaurant opened with a special puja attended by Chopra, her husband Nick Jonas, and close friends and family. Goyal shared an emotional note on Instagram about his journey with Sona.
“As I near the end of this monumental chapter, I could not be more proud. We accomplished so much-from a remarkable New York Times review to being a haven for the LGBT community,” Goyal wrote in a separate Instagram post. “Realizing SONA has been the honour of my lifetime. Perhaps the most meaningful is the vast number of people that have been firmly planted in my corner. I had – and have – so many people rooting for me. I know how fortunate I am.”
