Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) has kick-started the production of trainsets for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited’s (BMRCL) Phase 2 Yellow Line project. The production, which began on May 18, 2024, is expected to deliver the first trainset by August 2024.

What Happened: The news was announced by the rail infra company on Friday, June 14. The production is part of a contract with China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC). The original contract between BMRCL and CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd, signed in December 2019, faced challenges leading to delays. To address this, CRRC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Titagarh Rail Systems.

Under the MoU, Titagarh will manufacture the trainsets at its state-of-the-art facility in Uttarpara. Titagarh is responsible for producing 34 of the 36 trainsets needed for the Yellow Line. Only two trainsets, comprising 12 coaches, will be manufactured in China.

Why It Matters: The 21-km Yellow Line, extending from RV Road to Bommasandra, is a crucial metro corridor designed to enhance connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion in Bengaluru.

Price Action: Titagarh’s share price was up 2.79% to trade at ₹1,486 just before market close on Friday.
