Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will assemble its iconic Range Rover models in India, for the first time outside the UK, PTI reported. This decision is expected to result in a substantial drop in prices for the locally assembled models.

What Happened: JLR, owned by Tata Motors, has traditionally manufactured its Range Rover models exclusively in its UK-based plant, from where they were exported worldwide. The assembly will now take place at the Pune plant in India.

The move is expected to cause a decrease in the prices of locally assembled Range Rovers by 18-22%, with prices ranging from ₹1.40 crore to ₹2.60 crore, depending on the model. The Range Rover Sport is expected to be available for delivery as early as August this year.

N Chandrasekaran, chairman of the Tata Group, expressed his confidence in the decision, expecting it to boost sales in India. Rajan Amba, JLR India MD, shared this optimism, stating that local production will make Range Rover and Range Rover Sports more accessible to Indian buyers.

JLR India reported an 81% increase in retail sales last fiscal year, with 4,436 units sold. The Pune factory will now produce six models, including the two Range Rover models, Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar F-PACE, and Discovery Sport. Jaguar expects the local production would bring down the waiting period for the two Range Rover models over the next year.
